Jalandhar has started work on its first dedicated "green track" for bicycles, motorcycles and e-rickshaws and the project is being developed on Bhagwan Mahavir Marg from Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Chowk to Adarsh Nagar Chowk. The Municipal Corporation has created this special lane to improve traffic movement and provide safer travel for two wheeler riders and e-rickshaw drivers and the track is being painted green so that it can be easily identified by motorists using the road.

2 kilometer long stretch

Construction work on project began in presence of Central Zone In-charge Nitin Kohli and officials of Municipal Corporation and the stretch is around 2 kilometres long and is being developed as a pilot project for city.

Future plans

According to officials the performance and results of the project will be reviewed after the route is completed and based on the outcome similar tracks may be developed in other parts of city and the next planned phase is the construction of a similar green track from Adarsh Nagar Chowk to Football Chowk.

Dedicated lanes for two/three-wheeler

Road improvement work has already been completed on one side of Bhagwan Mahavir Marg and resurfacing work on the other side is also underway, after the road work is finished a green track will be developed there as well and this will provide dedicated lanes for bicycles, motorcycles and e-rickshaws on both sides of the road.

Aims to reduce traffic congestion

The project is being seen as an important step towards improving city's traffic management system and dedicated lanes are expected to help reduce congestion and make travel more organized for road users.
