Model Town, one of Jalandhar's most upscale neighbourhoods, got heavily flooded after intense overnight rain, leaving many stores waterlogged and causing significant damage.

Heavy rainfall began late Sunday evening in Punjab, turning especially intense around 9 PM and continuing almost nonstop for over 4–5 hours. The consistent downpour led to water entering shops, homes, and streets across Jalandhar, with Model Town hit particularly hard.

Rescue efforts begin early morning

At about 2 AM, Model Town President Rajive Duggal received an urgent call that water had swept into stores in the area. By 3 AM, he reached the scene and started rescue operations with help from local residents, working together to clear water out of flooded shops.

Store owners face major losses

Many store owners remained at their businesses all night, struggling to save goods and limit their losses. Duggal highlighted the difficult situation, noting that most shops have loans and no insurance, leaving them exposed to major financial losses. A mobile shop at Mata Rani Chowk suffered especially severe damage, as water poured in and ruined merchandise.

Appeal for urgent help

With the area under a heavy rainfall alert for the next 48 hours, store owners and local leaders fear even greater damage may occur. Duggal said they are reaching out to the city corporation, hoping for swift assistance to remove the water and prevent further destruction before matters get even worse.
