The long-awaited management elections of the Jullundur Gymkhana Club are expected to move forward after the club officially announced the date of its Annual General Meeting.
According to a message issued by the club, the AGM will be held on August 1 at 5:00 PM at the club premises.
In the latest update shared with members, the club informed that the AGM will be conducted as per the agenda uploaded on the club's official app and website and the same agenda has also been displayed on the club's notice board. Members have also been informed that they can download the balance sheet for the financial year 2024-25 from the club app or website before attending the meeting.
The announcement is significant because, under the club's election rules, management elections must be conducted within 45 days of the AGM and with the AGM now scheduled for August 1, the election process is expected to begin soon, ending months of uncertainty over the poll schedule.
The elections were originally expected much earlier this year, earlier, the AGM had been scheduled for March 14, and the election date was also expected to be announced during that meeting, however, the AGM was postponed after Divisional Commissioner Ramvir was occupied with the Punjab Investment Summit.
Following the latest announcement, election-related activity within the club is expected to gain momentum, even before the official election schedule is released, one of the contesting groups, the Achievers Group, has already announced candidates for four key posts.
According to information shared by the group, Dheeraj Seth has been named as its candidate for the post of Junior Vice President, Amit Kukreja for Secretary, Harpreet Singh (Goldy) for Joint Secretary and Saurabh Khullar for Treasurer.
The Jullundur Gymkhana Club's management elections attract considerable attention because the club has an influential membership that includes leading business families and senior bureaucrats and as a result, the outcome of the elections is closely followed in the city.
The previous management elections were held in March 2024. During those elections, the Achievers Group recorded a strong performance where Amit Kukreja won the post of Junior Vice President by a record margin of 718 votes, while Saurabh Khullar was elected Treasurer and Anu Matta won the post of Joint Secretary, however, the post of Secretary was won by Sandeep Kukki Behl, who defeated Achievers Group candidate Tarun Sikka by a narrow margin.
With the AGM now officially fixed for August 1, members are expected to complete the annual meeting before the club proceeds with the next phase of the election process and as per the club's rules, the management elections are expected to be held within 45 days of the AGM.
