Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on July 17 to inaugurate four redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme and the announcement was made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab State President Sardar Kewal Singh Dhillon.

Inauguration ceremony planned

According to Dhillon, the inauguration ceremony will begin at around 3:00 PM. During his visit, the Prime Minister will personally inaugurate the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station, at the same time, he will virtually dedicate three other upgraded railway stations in Punjab to the nation.

The four railway stations included in the list are:

  • Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station

  • S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) Railway Station

  • Sri Muktsar Sahib Railway Station

  • Sri Anandpur Sahib Railway Station

Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

These stations have been redeveloped under the Central Government's Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to modernise railway stations across India while preserving their local identity and heritage.

Improved railway infrastructure

Dhillon said the redevelopment of these stations marks an important step in improving railway infrastructure in Punjab, said the stations have been upgraded with modern passenger facilities while maintaining their local architectural style.

More comfortable & convenient travel 

The redevelopment work includes several new facilities designed to make travel more comfortable and convenient for passengers which include better waiting areas, modern concourses, upgraded platforms, improved accessibility for all passengers, lifts, escalators, and other commuter-friendly infrastructure.

Better travel experience

The upgraded stations are expected to provide a better travel experience for daily commuters as well as long-distance passengers and the improvements are also aimed at making railway stations safer, cleaner, and more accessible for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and families travelling with children.

Modernizing railway station 

Dhillon said the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to modernise Indian Railways and said railway stations are being transformed into modern transport hubs that not only improve passenger services but also help boost tourism, trade, business, and regional connectivity.

He added that the redevelopment of these four railway stations reflects the Central Government's focus on strengthening infrastructure in Punjab and according to him, better railway stations will improve travel facilities for people and contribute to the state's overall development.

Dhillon further said the BJP-led Central Government remains committed to the holistic development of Punjab by making continuous investments in railway, road, and other key infrastructure projects, he said such projects are aimed at providing world-class public facilities and improving connectivity across the state.

Major upgrades underway

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is a nationwide initiative under which railway stations are being upgraded with better passenger amenities and modern infrastructure. At the same time, the redevelopment focuses on preserving the cultural and architectural identity of each station so that local heritage is not lost during modernisation.

With Prime Minister Modi scheduled to inaugurate these four stations on July 17, Punjab will see another addition to its upgraded railway infrastructure, with Jalandhar Cantonment being inaugurated in person and the remaining three stations being dedicated to the nation through a virtual ceremony.
