Sanjeev Arora who is an elected MLA from the Ludhiana West constituency has been given a major new responsibility, and has been assigned the Local Bodies department. A cabinet reshuffle recently took place in Punjab on Thursday, where Dr. Ravjot Singh, who previously held the Local Bodies department, has now been given the NRI Affairs department.
Today, Sanjeev Arora has emerged as one of the most powerful ministers, as now he holds the portfolio of the Local Bodies department. This development comes after Sanjeev Arora’s exceptional performance in the department of Industry and Commerce. His contribution to this portfolio was one the biggest reasons as to why he was trusted with such a huge responsibility. The governments’ decision reflects that they are working on strengthening their presence in the state.
On of the biggest reasons as to why Sanjeev Arora was entrusted with such a huge responsibility is the crucial role that he played during Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s recent visit to Japan and North Korea. These visits proved to be extremely beneficial for the industrial sector of Punjab. During this international visit a lot of trade agreements were signed and gave a major boost to the sector.
Sanjeev Arora was elected an MLA last year, 2025 after he won the by-election from Ludhiana West assembly constituency. He was administered oath on June 28, 2025. Prior to this Sanjeev Arora was a Rajya Sabha MP, and after being elected an MLA he resigned from his position of Rajya Sabha member. After his oath was administered, he was given the departments of Industry and Commerce and NRI Affairs. Later on, during a cabinet reshuffle he was also handed over the department of Power.
Not only the government of Punjab, but big business tycoons have also shown appreciation for Sanjeev Arora’s performance and have backed him. His continuous efforts have been proven to be fruitful and shown impressive results. Talking about the future roadmap, the Minister had informed that the 6th Progressive Punjab Investors Summit-2026 will be held from March 13 to 15, 2026, at Mohali, which is expected to provide another major boost to the State’s industrial ecosystem.
This reshuffle is also significant because municipal corporation elections are also due in the state in the coming days. This move seems to be an effort of the government to improve its position and hold in urban areas. The three major corporations that are Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar have been facing major roadblocks in infrastructural departments; issues such as poor roads and delay in projects have stalled the growth rate of these corporations. With Arora’s understanding and experience the government’s decision reflects their commitment for better Punjab and shows their trust in Sanjeev Arora’s performance.
