Taking a decisive move the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation (MC) launched a major bulldozer drive in Latifpura, Jalandhar. The Latifpura controversy started back in late 2022 when things began to unfold after the Jalandhar Improvement Trust knocked down on a cluster of unauthorized homes in Latifpura. The occupants established new illegal encroachments ultimately slowing the foot travel and vehicles through the neighborhood. The residents had to face inconvenience and had been waiting for an administrative remedy to curb out the illegal settlements.
The operation done by the Jalandhar MC was aimed at removing those encroachments obstructing roads and open the area.
A meeting was held at the District Administrative Complex, where Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, along with Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur, interacted with the affected families of Latifpura and leaders of the Latifpura Rehabilitation Front and assured them that the District Administration is committed to providing every possible help and support for the rehabilitation of the affected families.
It was assured that the allotment of 49 flats and 15 plots to the affected families at Bibi Bhani Complex and Surya Enclave would be made. Besides this, it was also assured that all the necessary repairs of the flats would be done by the administration.
Now, it is interesting to notice all of the sudden attention that Latifpura is getting. There are various reasons for this. One of the biggest reasons at play here is the upcoming Assembly elections in Punjab in 2027. The ruling party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is already in action mode and initiated the implementation of their roadmap to the achieve their goals.
Jalandhar Cantt is a crucial seat and the government has been doing consistent efforts to woe the masses. The move to assure the allotment of 49 flats and 15 plots to the affected families at Bibi Bhani Complex and Surya Enclave is a direct indicator of the same.
The recent outreach by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann where he held a dialogue with the public in Jalandhar on Thursday is also a big testament for the government’s persistent efforts. Reportedly, during the public meeting, major emphasis was given to the residents and representatives from Jalandhar Cantt and their demands ad grievances were tended to.
It is noteworthy that in the 2022 Punjab Assembly Polls, Congress leader Pargat Singh bagged the MLA seat from Jalandhar Cantt beating Surinder Singh Sodhi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). So this commotion in Jalandhar Cantt area is a clear indication that the party is geared up for the polls and the ground work has already begun. For the upcoming polls of 2027, it is anticipated that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is planning to field a prominent face from the seat as the party is determined to win the seat.
