Aam Aadmi Part (AAP) MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra has been arrested by the Patiala Police from Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior district ending his months-long run from law enforcement in a rape case dating back two years and according to police sources Pathanmajra was intercepted on Wednesday after a tip-off revealed his movement while he was travelling towards Delhi after which the arrest took place in Shivpuri, located in the northern part of Madhya Pradesh where police teams moved in and took him into custody.
Pathanmajra the sitting MLA from Sanaur assembly constituency in Patiala had been absconding for nearly six months and had earlier managed to escape police custody in Karnal, Haryana in September 2025 and later fled abroad to Australia. He recently returned to India from Australia around five days ago and police had already issued a Look Out Circular against him as investigations continued in the case.
The MLA was booked on September 1, 2025 in a rape case along with charges of cheating and criminal intimidation and his arrest came after he failed to secure anticipatory bail which was rejected by a Patiala court earlier this month.
Police also acted against his aides during the investigation booking several individuals for allegedly helping him evade arrest and along with this separate cases were also registered in Haryana in connection with his escape from custody.
Confirming the arrest Patiala SSP Varun Sharma said that the accused will be produced in court soon where police will seek his remand for further questioning. This is the second major arrest involving an AAP legislator in recent days adding to the political heat in Punjab’s ongoing developments.
