Punjab cadre IAS officer Surabhi Malik (2012 batch) has been appointed as Director in the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under the Central Staffing Scheme. The appointment has been cleared for a tenure of five years from the date she takes charge or until further orders.

This development marks a key moment in her administrative journey, where she has consistently been recognised for her professionalism, efficiency, and strong governance approach. She also made history as the first woman to serve as Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana, the largest district in Punjab, earning appreciation for her leadership.

Widely regarded as an honest and efficient officer, Malik has built a reputation for transparent administration, prompt decision-making, and a people-centric governance style during her various postings.

Her previous assignments include serving as Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) and Additional Commissioner in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation. She has also held important positions such as Deputy Commissioner of Fatehgarh Sahib, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rupnagar, and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Nangal. Additionally, she has worked as Chairperson of the Patiala Improvement Trust and Chief Administrator of the Patiala Development Authority.

On the academic front, she holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the London School of Economics under the Commonwealth Scholarship programme, strengthening her analytical and policy-oriented outlook.

In her new role at the Centre, she is expected to play a significant role in shaping urban development policies, planning frameworks, and governance initiatives at the national level.
