After the death of Punjab Warehousing Corporation (PWC) district manager Gagandeep Singh Randhawa the family has been demanding quick action from the police and on Monday, the family said they are unhappy with the delay in the arrest of former Punjab minister Laljit Singh Bhullar and others named in the case. They have given the government a 24-hour deadline to arrest the accused and warn that if no action is taken within this time the family will stir a protest.
Speaking to the media, Randhawa’s wife Upinder Kaur said the family is still waiting for justice and alleged that her husband was under heavy pressure and threats before his death. According to her, he was told that his family would be harmed and gangsters could be sent after him, “I have three young children and a mother-in-law and we all want justice,” she said. Their daughter also questioned the government’s role saying that if a common person had been accused the police would have acted immediately and claimed that action is being delayed because Bhullar is a powerful leader.
The family believes that Randhawa took this extreme step due to mental pressure and harassment and a case of abetment to suicide has already been registered against those named, meanwhile a CCTV video which is being claimed to show Randhawa consuming poison has gone viral on social media. However, officials have not yet confirmed its authenticity. It is noteworthy that even after two days of the incident, Gagandeep Singh Randhawa’s post-mortem has not been conducted yet.
