A major controversy has erupted in Punjab after the suicide of a senior government officer, with serious allegations levelled against the former Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar and here’s a simple breakdown of what has happened so far.
The deceased Gagandeep Singh Randhawa was working as a District Manager with the Punjab State Warehousing Corporation in Amritsar and was handling work related to warehouse tenders in Amritsar and Tarn Taran districts.
Randhawa allegedly consumed poison on March 21, 2026, died and before taking this step he recorded a video which later went viral on social media where he had made several serious allegations against the minister and others.
In his final video Randhawa reportedly accused Minister Bhullar of:
Pressuring him to allot a government tender to his father
Asking for a bribe of around Rs 10 lakh
Harassing him repeatedly over official work
Allegedly assaulting him at his residence
Trying to force him into a compromising situation on camera
However, it is noteworthy that these claims are yet to be independently verified and are currently under an ongoing investigation.
A FIR has been registered in the matter based on a complaint filed by Randhawa’s wife Upinder Kaur which names:
Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar
His father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar
His PA Dilbag Singh
According to the FIR Randhawa was under continuous pressure to favour the minister’s father in a warehouse construction tender and when he refused citing rules and transparency in the online process he was allegedly threatened.
Claims made in the FIR:
He was repeatedly threatened with harm to his family
He was allegedly called to the minister’s residence & beaten
The case has been registered under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including: Section 108 (abetment-related offence), Section 351(3) (criminal intimidation) & Section 3(5) (common intention).
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann acted quickly after the incident, he accepted the resignation of Minister Bhullar and ordered a fair and impartial inquiry saying the government has a “zero tolerance” policy towards misconduct.
The case is now under official investigation and authorities will examine the viral video, verify the allegations made by the deceased and record statements and gather evidence.
