The Commissioner of Police of Ludhiana, IPS Swapan Sharma, has taken an active step to combat traffic across the areas that are near school premises. The decision has been taken after bringing together representatives from prominent schools across Ludhiana.
“The agenda centered around structured guidelines under the Safe School Vahan Scheme and collaborative efforts to address ongoing traffic challenges outside school premises, particularly during peak hours,” noted the press release by the government officials.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Traffic Wing of Ludhiana Commissionerate, including Mr. Parminder Singh Bhandal, PPS, DCP (Law and Order cum Traffic), Gurpreet Kaur Purewal, PPS, ADCP, Traffic, Mr. Jatin Bansal, PPS, ACP, Traffic-1, Ludhiana and Gurpreet Singh, PPS, ACP, Traffic-2, Ludhiana.
According to the meeting conducted by the Ludhiana Police Commissioner, in an effort to tackle traffic congestion during school opening and closing hours, school authorities were given clear instructions to deploy 10 Traffic Marshals/Volunteers to assist with traffic management. These marshals will be hired by the schools and will operate in coordination with the Traffic/PCR officials deployed by Ludhiana Police.
Along with this, the meeting concluded that no one should be allowed ‘unauthorized parking’ around the school premises, which will help in the easy flow of traffic. The school management has been advised to inform staff, parents, and guardians to follow proper traffic rules. Besides this, the management has been asked to follow the proper guidelines of the Safe School Vahan Scheme to make sure that traffic is controlled and accidents are minimized near the school zones.
The schools which actively participated in the meet included Greenland Senior Secondary School, Jalandhar Bypass, Ludhiana; Sacred Heart Convent School, Sector-39, Chandigarh Road; Ryan International School, Jamalpur; BCM School, Sector 32, Chandigarh Road; Sacred Heart Convent School, Sahnewal; Sachdeva School, Sahnewal; Greenland Senior Secondary School, Dugri; Satpal Mittal School, Dugri; BCM School, Basant Avenue; Guru Nanak Public School, Sarabha Nagar; Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar; KVM School, Civil Lines; and DAV School, BRS Nagar.
While concluding the meeting, the Ludhiana Police Commission assured the people that the government will continue to improve road safety to provide safety to the school-going children by making a more disciplined traffic environment.
The authorities expressed confidence that the collaborative efforts between law enforcement and the school community will lead to a significant reduction in traffic chaos and enhanced safety for all road users.
