A major uproar was witnessed at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) near the city bus stand on Wednesday as agitated citizens raised slogans over alleged delays in official work.
According to information received, long queues were seen inside the office premises, with several applicants expressing frustration over the slow processing of files. Some individuals resorted to sloganeering, accusing the staff of inefficiency and lack of accountability.
Kamlesh Kumar, a resident of Basti Danishmanda, stated that he had arrived at the office at 7 a.m. regarding his driving licence. “My file was submitted around 9 a.m., but even by 12 noon, no progress had been made,” he alleged. When he sought clarification from the staff, he was reportedly told that there were network issues. At other times, officials cited tea breaks and staff unavailability as reasons for the delay.
He further questioned the functioning of the department, asking where government funds were being utilized if basic services could not be delivered efficiently. Kamlesh also claimed that when he attempted to speak with senior officials, arguments ensued instead of receiving assistance.
Another applicant, Mukesh Kumar, said he had been standing in line since 9 a.m. and had already made three visits to the office, but his work remained pending. “We are being told repeatedly that the internet is not working, which is causing the delay,” he said.
A large number of people were reportedly affected by the disruption in services. Meanwhile, the RTO staff maintained that networking work was underway at the office and that the public had been informed about the temporary inconvenience.
