The Jalandhar district administration has ordered the closure of meat and fish shops and slaughterhouses across the district on September 15, 2026, in view of Samvatsari Mahaparva. The administration has also prohibited the serving of non-vegetarian food at hotels, dhabas and ahatas on the day.

Order Issued Under Section 163 of BNSS

Additional District Magistrate Amaninder Kaur issued the directions by exercising powers vested under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. The order applies across Jalandhar district and will remain in force on Tuesday, September 15.

The administration has directed all concerned establishments to comply with the restrictions during the religious observance.

Non-Vegetarian Food Serving Also Prohibited

The restrictions extend beyond shops and slaughterhouses. The administration has specifically stated that meat and other non-vegetarian food cannot be served at hotels, dhabas and ahatas on September 15.

This means establishments serving food to customers will also have to ensure that non-vegetarian items are not prepared or served during the period covered by the order.

Administration Directs Strict Compliance

The district administration has asked concerned businesses and food establishments to follow the order. Meat and fish sellers, slaughterhouses, hotels, dhabas and ahatas operating in Jalandhar will have to adhere to the restrictions on Samvatsari Mahaparva.

The order comes as part of the district administration’s arrangements for the observance of the religious occasion.
