A post by Atul Bhagat, son of Punjab minister Mohinder Bhagat, created controversy after he mistakenly called Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s martyrdom day his birthday. Responding to the controversy, Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat clarified that March 23 is observed as Martyrdom Day and not a birth anniversary and said the day is meant to remember the sacrifices made by the three revolutionaries adding that the nation should never forget their contribution as it is because of them that people live in freedom today.

On being questioned about the post by his son the minister said he has not yet spoken to his son regarding the issue and will give a clearer response after discussing it with him he also mentions that the post deleted later and says that if it was removed to correct the mistake it should be seen as a positive step.

The minister further appealed that Martyrdom Day should be observed with respect and dignity and unnecessary controversy over such matters should be avoided.
