The investigation into the grenade attack on the residence of senior BJP leader and former Punjab minister Manoranjan Kalia has entered a crucial stage. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is in the final stages of its probe and is preparing to file a chargesheet in the coming weeks.

Sources confirmed that during the investigation, the NIA along with Police Division Number 3 brought the accused, Saidul Amin of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, to the crime scene. At that time, two CCTV footages were recorded. The first clip, 1 minute 11 seconds long, shows the accused being taken around the spot, while the second, lasting 1 minute 26 seconds and dated May 12, 2025, captures him explaining the details of the crime scene to the officers.

Punjab BJP’s Acting President Ashwani Sharma came down heavily on the state government, alleging negligence and a breakdown of law and order. “If the Punjab government had been serious, Punjab would not be facing such a collapse in law and order. The Punjab Police appeared indifferent from the start. It was only after the intervention of Home Minister Amit Shah that the NIA stepped in. We are confident Manoranjan Kalia will get justice soon,” Sharma said.

He added that investigators are also probing who else was behind the attack and what their motives might have been.

Former minister Manoranjan Kalia confirmed that Amit Shah personally called him after the incident and assured him that the case would be handed over to the NIA. “After that call, the NIA immediately took charge from Punjab Police. The agency is investigating thoroughly from every angle, and the chargesheet will only be filed once the probe is complete,” Kalia said.

He further clarified that the CCTV clips were part of the NIA’s investigative process. “The agency conducts its own methods of investigation. The footage showing the accused at the crime scene was recorded to reconstruct what happened. The investigation is ongoing, and the chargesheet will reflect the findings once complete,” he added.
