Jalandhar was rocked by two sensational crimes on February 6; just hours after the murder of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi in Model Town area of Jalandhar news broke out from Urban Estate of a robbery where a couple claimed that they had been robbed of Rs 19 Lakh by some unknown bike-borne thieves outside a bank in Urban Estate, Jalandhar.
Now a shocking revelation has been made in the case by Jalandhar Police who have uncovered the plot and revealed that the couple themselves orchestrated the entire robbery. Additional Superintendent of Police (ADCP) Harvinder Singh Gill explains that Priya Verma, a resident of Bank Enclave had filled a complaint on February 6 alleging that she along with her husband have been robbed of Rs 19.10 Lakh. According to Priya’s statement, she mentioned that she and her husband withdrew Rs 19.10 Lakh from a bank and were on their way to hand it over to someone when two young men on a motorcycle snatched their bag containing the money from her hand near the LG store located in Urban Estate Phase 2 and fled the scene.
Police Station 7, led by SI Baljinder Singh had registered a case against the unidentified robbers and initiated a probe into the case.
Following the investigation, the police have arrested two accused in the case, identified as Bhima alias Phool Kumar and Abhi, both residing in Khurla Kingra. Both the accused were produced in the court and granted two-day police remand. It was revealed during the investigation that the entire robbery incident was a conspiracy orchestrated by Priya Verma alongside her husband Ramanand Verma, who own Verma Artificial Jewellery themselves.
As a part of an elaborated plan the Verma couple took help from their employees and plotted to orchestrate a fake robbery, where the ‘thieves’ snatched an ‘empty bag’ from Priya’s hand and fled. The employees who enacted thieves were each given Rs 3,500 in return. After the complaint was filed, Priya suspected that the police were rigorously looking for the culprits so she asked them to leave Jalandhar, however, the police were able to apprehend them.
Talking about the case, ACP Model Town Paramjit Singh Mand explains that it was revealed during the police investigation, Priya Verma and Ramanand Verma, owners of Verma Artificial Jewellery had taken out a loan of over Rs 19 Lakh from the bank. The loan was insured by the bank, in case anything wrong happened with the Verma couple in the future, the insurance company would cover the loan amount. The Verma couple tried to outsmart the system and planned along with their employees to concoct a fake robbery and secure the insurance money.
From here the police got a lead and during the investigation the police reached the house of Bhima alias Phool Kumar son of Sant Ram resident of Pindam Dhakoliya village Jangighat police station Bodi district Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh), currently resident and tenant of Krishna Nagar street number 3 Khurla Kingra Jalandhar and arrested him. During interrogation the accused Bhima identified his other accomplice as Abhi son of Radheshyam alias Ghasita Ram resident of village Patti Kamalapur police station Fakharpur district Bahraich (Uttar Pradesh), currently resident of house number 6 Khurla Kingra Jalandhar. The police arrested both of them and also recovered the motorcycle used in the crime from Abhi's house. As of now, further probe is on in the case and more details are awaited.
