Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar Rural, Harvinder Singh Virk, while sharing details, stated that on January 11, 2026, a firing incident occurred at the residence of Sukhchain Singh, son of Lal Singh, resident of village Sohal Jagir. In connection with the incident, FIR No. 14 dated 13-01-2026 was registered at Police Station Shahkot under Section 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 25/27, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act, and a thorough investigation was initiated.

Considering the seriousness of the offence, police teams were constituted under the directions of SSP Jalandhar Rural. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Sukhpal Singh, DSP, Sub Division Shahkot, with special teams working under the leadership of Inspector Balwinder Singh, Station House Officer, Police Station Shahkot.

During the course of investigation, police received reliable confidential information that the two accused involved in the firing incident were roaming near Sohal Jagir, armed and intending to commit another criminal act. Acting swiftly on the input, police teams laid a blockade in the area.

During the blockade, two suspects arrived on a motorcycle and were signaled to stop. Instead of complying, the accused opened fire on the police party, posing a serious threat to public safety and police personnel. In response, the police exercised restraint and carried out retaliatory action strictly in self-defense.

During the exchange of fire, accused Karanvir sustained a bullet injury to his thigh and was immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment, where he is undergoing treatment under police supervision. The second accused, Angrej Singh, was apprehended on the spot.

  Details of Arrested Accused

The arrested accused have been identified as:

1.            Angrej Singh, son of Karnail Singh, resident of village Marhana, Police Station Chohla Sahib, District Tarn Taran.

2.            Karanvir, son of Naib, resident of village Marhana, Police Station Chohla Sahib, District Tarn Taran.

Recovery of Arms and Vehicle  

From the spot, police recovered:

•             One .30 bore pistol

•             One live cartridge

•             One empty cartridge shell

•             One Splendor motorcycle, used in the commission of the crime.

SSP Jalandhar Rural further disclosed that the investigation has revealed the firing incident to be part of a criminal conspiracy orchestrated from abroad. The main conspirator, Balwant Singh alias Banta, resident of village Sohal Jagir and presently residing in the USA, is the maternal cousin of the complainant.

As per investigation findings, Balwant Singh contacted Charanjit Singh alias Channa, son of Kuldeep Singh, who is currently residing in the Philippines. Acting on these instructions, Charanjit Singh hired Angrej Singh and Karanvir to execute the firing incident.

SSP Jalandhar Rural informed that the process of initiating extradition proceedings against the accused operating from abroad is being undertaken through appropriate diplomatic channels, as per law 

Further investigation in the case is being carried out with full seriousness.
