

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) of Chandigarh unit on Wednesday updated its prediction on Punjab Weather. The weather department has predicted that many districts of Punjab are likely to be hit by hailstorm as well as thunderstorm along with lightning.
Not only this, but IMD on Wednesday also issued safety advisory for the people of Punjab. IMD has alerted that districts in orange alert category are likely to witness thunderstorm, lightning and wind gusting upto 60 kmph. The districts are also expected to be hit by hailstorm.
January 22- (Orang alert for hail, thunderstorm)- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Moga, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar
Rest of the districts are on yellow alert for thunderstorm
January 23 (Orange alert for hail, thunderstorm)- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Rupnagar, Ludhiana, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala.
Rest of the districts are on yellow alert for thunderstorm.
Breaking of small tree branches and risk from flying debris or objects.
Lightning strikes may occur at vulnerable locations such as large trees, electric towers and poles, water bodies, building rooftops, and hilltops.
Hailstorms can injure people and cattle.
Hail may cause significant damage to crops.
Disruption of municipal services such as water supply and electricity is likely.
Traffic congestion may occur due to slippery roads and low visibility, leading to increased travel time and difficult driving conditions.
Minor damage may occur to kutcha houses, walls, huts, and other weak structures.
Move to safe buildings or houses, avoid weak structures, and stay away from windows.
Protect your head if caught in a hailstorm.
Bring children indoors as they are more susceptible to hail-related injuries.
Keep livestock in safe locations.
Stay away from electric poles and power lines.
If driving and unable to reach a safe location, pull over at a safe place and remain inside a closed vehicle.
Do not take shelter under trees and avoid going near water bodies.
Unplug electrical equipment and avoid touching metallic objects, water taps, or pipes.
