The Punjab government on Monday removed Amritsar Rural SSP Suhail Qasim Mir as part of a transfer order involving 14 officers across the state.
Mir had recently come under the spotlight following a controversy involving senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The episode related to allegations that Majithia entered the Majitha police station and facilitated the release of an accused, triggering a political storm and drawing widespread public attention.
According to the latest transfer orders, Suhail Qasim Mir has been relieved from the post of Amritsar Rural SSP and posted as AIG Personnel-I at Punjab Police Headquarters in Chandigarh.
In the interim, the charge of Amritsar Rural SSP has been assigned to SP Kanwaljit Singh until further orders.
