

Punjab and nearby areas have been witnessing a significant drop in temperatures with thunderstorm lightening and gusty winds reported in some isolated places of the state. The highest daytime temperature in the state was recorded in Patiala at 26°C, while the lowest night temperature dropped to 9.8°C in Amritsar with wind speeds reached up to 50 kmph in Ropar and 46 kmph in Hoshiarpur, as per the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Chandigarh.
As per the IMD forecast, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places on March 17, 18, 19 and 21 with increased rain activity will on March 20.
March 19 warning:
Thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds (30–50 kmph) and possible hailstorms expected at isolated places in the state. Districts likely to be affected include Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala, Sangrur, Kapurthala, Fatehgarh Sahib, Malerkotla, Moga, Mansa, Barnala, and others.
Some northern and border districts like Pathankot, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur may see slightly lower wind speeds (30–40 kmph), but still face storm risk.
March 20 warning:
Similar conditions are expected to prevail stepping into the next day with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30–50 kmph). Hailstorms are also likely in several districts including Ludhiana, Patiala, Jalandhar, Mohali, Bathinda and Ferozepur.
Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many places across: Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahar, Rupnagara and Mohali, while light to moderate rain is likely at few places over in Amritsar, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Patiala and Sangrur. Light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over Moga, Bathinda, Barnala, Mansa, Ferozepur, Muktsar and Faridkot.
A sharp fall of 5–7°C is expected in the next three days
