

A team of the Municipal Corporation, Jalandhar carried out a demolition drive on Police Lines Road, where portions of a hotel building were razed over alleged building violations. According to the reports, the team demolished a boundary wall and parapet of the hotel, which had reportedly covered excess area beyond the approved plan of the property that had been lying shut for over a month. Reportedly, the owners of the said hotel had been contesting the case and had secured a stay order earlier form a local court during a previous demolition attempt.
Talking about the case, Municipal Corporation officials mention that the enforcement action was carried out after the stay order was vacated.
Dr. Mandeep Kaur, Joint Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, shares that a case regarding building violations had been pending in court and no action was taken while the stay order was in force, she added that the appeal had now been dismissed, allowing the department to proceed with the action. She further noted that the court had observed certain portions of the hotel were constructed illegally which led to the enforcement action. Dr. Kaur also stated that some individuals attempted to obstruct official duties during the drive, and appropriate action would be taken against them.
