A dispute between a station superintendent and a train manager at Lohian Khas railway station in Punjab's Jalandhar district has prompted the Firozpur Railway Division to constitute an inquiry committee. The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, October 8, over the movement of a Bogie Petroleum Tank Wagon (BTPN) rake bound for Jammu.

According to the allegations, Station Superintendent Yashwant Singh struck Train Manager Ravi Kumar with a stick during an argument over the movement of the rake. A video of the incident has also surfaced, purportedly showing the confrontation and the train manager's phone falling after the alleged blow.

The railway authorities have initiated an inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding the dispute and determine responsibility.

Inquiry committee constituted by Firozpur division

According to an official memorandum issued by the Northern Railway's DRM office in Firozpur on October 9, 2026, a committee has been constituted to investigate the dispute between the station superintendent and the train manager at Lohian Khas.

The document names Harmeet Singh, DOM/FZR, to conduct the inquiry, with Nitin Babuta,, assisting him. The committee has been directed to investigate the matter, record statements from the staff members and witnesses concerned, and submit an inquiry report with clear findings.

The memorandum lists Yashwant Singh, SS at Lohian Khas, and Ravi Kumar, Train Manager at HQ/JUC, as the two employees involved in the dispute.

Dispute reportedly began over movement of BTPN rake

As per the account of the incident, the BTPN rake arriving from the Firozpur division reached Lohian Khas at around 11 am on Thursday while travelling towards Jammu.

The train crew reportedly did not receive clear instructions on whether the rake should proceed or remain at the station. Train Manager Ravi Kumar allegedly sought instructions from Station Superintendent Yashwant Singh over the walkie-talkie, while locomotive pilot Gyan Prakash also reportedly attempted to obtain a response.

When no response was received, a message was reportedly conveyed through a pointsman. The station superintendent was subsequently said to have communicated that another train would be given priority.

Ravi Kumar then approached Yashwant Singh to clarify whether the BTPN rake had to be held for the other train. An argument reportedly followed, during which the station superintendent allegedly hit the train manager with a stick.

Rake remained at station as authorities took note

The incident reportedly led to a commotion at the station, while the BTPN rake remained at Lohian Khas for the day. The matter was brought to the attention of railway officials in the Firozpur division.

According to the information provided, the Government Railway Police (GRP) also recorded statements in connection with the incident. The inquiry is expected to establish the sequence of events and examine the accounts of the employees and other witnesses.

Train managers' association may take up the matter

The All India Train Guards Council is reportedly preparing to take up the matter. Further action will depend on the findings of the departmental inquiry and the authorities' assessment of the incident.

The railway memorandum confirms the constitution of an inquiry committee but does not establish guilt or announce any disciplinary action against either employee. The allegations concerning the assault remain subject to investigation.
