Jalandhar’s weather is likely to take a noticeable turn this week, with increasing cloud cover, chances of rain and thunderstorms, and a significant fall in daytime temperatures. After hovering around the mid-30s, the maximum temperature could drop to around 28°C by Friday.
The weather pattern is expected to begin changing from October 6, with partly cloudy skies and chances of light rain or thunderstorms.
According to the latest India Meteorological Department forecast, October 7, 8 and 9 could see thunderstorms, lightning and squall-related activity across Punjab. However, rainfall may not be uniform across Jalandhar, with some areas receiving showers while others may only experience cloud cover or gusty winds.
The biggest change this week is expected to be in daytime temperatures. Jalandhar’s maximum temperature could fall from around 34°C on October 5 to nearly 28°C by October 9.
The forecast indicates:
October 5: 34°C / 24°C — Mainly clear
October 6: 34°C / 23°C — Partly cloudy
October 7: 31°C / 22°C — Cloudier conditions
October 8: 31°C / 21°C — Cloudy
October 9: 28°C / 21°C — Rain or thundershowers possible
October 10: 29°C / 21°C — Rain or thundershowers possible
The maximum temperature could therefore decline by around 6°C between October 5 and October 9.
The middle of the week is expected to bring the most significant weather activity. The IMD has indicated the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning from October 7 to 9, with gusty winds potentially accompanying the activity.
October 5 and 6 are not currently marked as warning days for Punjab, while no warning is indicated for October 10–11 in the latest forecast.
The expected temperature drop could bring some relief from Jalandhar’s warm afternoon conditions. Maximum temperatures may settle around 31°C during the middle of the week before falling further towards 28°C.
Minimum temperatures could also remain around 21–22°C during the latter part of the week, signalling a noticeable shift towards cooler conditions.
The coming days could bring a combination of cloudy skies, rain or thundershowers, lightning, gusty winds and falling temperatures.
Residents should exercise caution during thunderstorms, particularly those travelling on two-wheelers, working outdoors or commuting during periods of active lightning and strong winds. The local weather forecast should be monitored as conditions can vary across different parts of the city.
For Jalandhar, the key change this week may not just be the possibility of rain but the temperature shift — from around 34°C at the start of the week to nearly 28°C by Friday.
