Renowned Punjabi singer Ranjit Bawa, celebrated for his soulful voice and socially conscious songs, has made a heartfelt contribution to flood relief in Punjab. During his recent concert in Alberta, Canada, Bawa announced that he would donate his entire show earnings to families struggling in flood-hit regions of the state.
During the performance, Bawa paused to play a video showing the devastation across Punjab — submerged villages, destroyed crops, and families in distress. “Punjab is my soul, my identity. If my people are in pain, I must stand with them,” he told the audience, who responded with a standing ovation.
The floods have severely impacted nine districts — Amritsar, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, Pathankot, Moga, and Barnala. Over 1,018 villages have been submerged, with Fazilka emerging as the worst-hit, where more than 16,600 hectares of farmland remain underwater.
Earlier, Sufi singer Satinder Sartaaj had pledged ration kits for 500 families. With Bawa’s donation, Punjabi artists are playing a vital role in relief efforts, showcasing community solidarity during a time of crisis.
Meanwhile, large-scale rescue and relief operations are underway, with the Army, NDRF, SDRF, BSF, and Punjab Police working round the clock to assist affected families.
