

Bus stand of multiple districts of Punjab were shut down on Friday as roadways employees staged protest. Roadways employees announced an indefinite protest in Punjab. They are demanding the rollback of Kilometer Scheme, release of their detained union leaders, and regularization of employees on contract.
The protest in Sangrur turned bizarre when a protesting employee allegedly attempted to burn himself by pouring petrol on himself. In an effort to stop him, the SHO of Dhuri sustained burn injuries. The officer was rushed to the hospital for treatment. A video of the incident has also come to the fore.
The video further showcase a group of protestors on the roof of a bus and throwing petrol on police officials and other security personnel.
In Ludhiana, a roadways employee climbed a water tank at the bus stand.
Regarding the PRTC employees' protest, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that the government is considering their demands. They should not take the law into their own hands. All issues will be resolved by sitting together. It's not possible to resolve a matter in 24 hours. They should exercise restraint and not take the law into their own hands.
