Roadways workers’ strike ends; consensus reached during meeting with Transport Minister

Protesting Punjab Roadways and Punbus employees called off their agitation on Sunday after consensus was reached during a meeting with the Transport Minister here at Patti, Tarn Taran.

After the meeting, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that the suspended employees would be reinstated and the remaining legitimate demands of the employees would also be met soon.

The Minister further said that the employees’ unions have agreed that they would not interfere in purchasing of new fleet of buses. He added that the if employees found involved in any illegal activity at the depot level then unions would not interfere without any valid reason.

The Cabinet Minister said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to the welfare of the employees while also taking care of the interests of the people and passengers of the state.

The Minister assured the representatives of the employees that they have a duty to serve the public and the government will take full care of interests of its employees.

Laljit Bhullar further informed that government bus services have been restored in the state. He said that every issue can be resolved through dialogue. He also directed the employees to extend bus services to school and college students on priority basis as they are the future of the nation.
