

A snatching incident was reported in Jalandhar yesterday where a pilgrim cyclist from Rajasthan was robbed on his journey to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi. The incident took place near the flyover situated in the Jalandhar Cantt police station area. Allegedly, miscreants assaulted the cyclist and fled away with his mobile phone and cash.
The victim, Vikas, who hails from Sikar village located in Rajasthan informed the police that he was travelling across India on a bicycle. He explains that the incident is of Tuesday afternoon, when he reached Jalandhar Cantt flyover. He says that Activa-borne miscreants approached him and intercepted him and then assaulted him later, and also snatched his mobile phone along with ₹10,000 cash that he was carrying at that time.
The local running and cycling community along with the Rotary Club of Jalandhar stepped in and assisted the victim. The communities raised nearly ₹12,000 to help Vikas. Additionally, they provided him with a new mobile phone to ensure he faces no difficulty during the remainder of his journey.
Rajesh Bahri, owner of Bahri Electronics and former president of Rotary Club of Jalandhar, said, “Vikas ji faced a distressing incident. Police are investigating, but our running and cycling community, along with the Rotary Club, collected around ₹12,000 and have decided to give it to him. We are also providing a mobile phone so that he does not face trouble during his journey. We cannot fully compensate for the loss, but we are trying to support him in every possible way.”
