A heated altercation between a passenger and a railway ticket clerk at Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station created a commotion at the station’s ticket counter, after the two argued over the issue of loose change which blew out of proportion. Reportedly, the dispute began when a passenger approached the counter to purchase a ticket but only had a ₹200 note with him at the time. The female clerk allegedly insisted that the passenger should have brought exact change, stating that she did not have sufficient smaller currency to return the balance to the passenger.

Clerk refuses to issue ticket

Following this, the argument intensified as the passenger pointed out that there was sufficient money in the cash drawer and objected to the clerk’s refusal to issue a ticket. The passenger also alleged that the counter was not accepting online payments either, leaving him without any way to purchase a ticket. During the exchange, the clerk reportedly returned the passenger’s money and refused to issue the ticket at all and also also warned the passenger against recording or posting the incident on social media, stating that she would call the Railway Protection Force (RPF) if such action was taken.

Video goes viral on social media, DRM steps in

A video of the incident later surfaced on the social media platform X, showing the heated exchange between the two, and the video quickly drew a lot of attention online. A user identified as Advocate Kalpana Srivastava shared the clip on X and tagged the Ministry of Railways along with the Firozpur Division of the Railways, urging authorities to take action and alleged that such behaviour by railway staff was inappropriate.

Responding to the post, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Firozpur Division asked the user to share a mobile number so that a formal complaint could be registered. In a follow-up statement posted from the official handle, the DRM’s office stated that railway employees are not permitted to behave rudely with passengers and confirmed that the matter has been taken seriously.

Further probe underway

Railway authorities said that the incident is currently under investigation and assured that an appropriate action will be taken. Following the viral video, several users on social media have also commented on the incident, demanding action against the staff member involved.
