Holiday in Punjab Schools and offices on October 7 is to mark the occasion of Birthday of Maharishi Valmiki Ji i.e. Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti.Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti is also known as Pargat Diwas.
Notably, preparations to celebrate Pargat Diwas have already started in Punjab. A large group of devotees left for Amritsar from the ancient Bhagwan Valmiki Mandir.
Vipan Sabharwal, Chairman of the Lord Valmiki Utsav Committee Punjab and the Valmiki Welfare Trust Shakti Nagar, stated that the seventh grand Valmiki Tirtha Amritsar bus journey began from Ali Mohalla in Jalandhar with the sacred Palki Sahib of Lord Valmiki Ji Maharaj.
The yatra passed through Rama Mandi, Maqsudan Mandi Chowk, Basti Bawa Khel, Hoshiarpur Chowk, Khurla Kingra Chowk, Adampur, Alawalpur, Central Town, Pathankot Chowk, Mirza Gali, and Vidhipur Railway Crossing before heading towards Amritsar.
