Scooter rider dies after being run over by garbage truck in Jalandhar, drive absconding

As per reports, the people nearby even tried to apprehend the truck driver and his accomplice, however both of them managed to escape.

A road accident took place near Dolphin Hotel in Jalandhar under the jurisdiction of Police Station 2. The accident took place when a garbage truck collided with a scooter (Activa). As per the information, the impact of the collision was so severe that the woman who was riding the scooter died on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Sunita, a resident of Dilbagh Nagar and was reportedly between the age of 50 to 55 years old.

The eye-witnesses present at the scene say that the truck driver fled the scene after the accident. Later, police were informed about the incident and they arrived at the accident site and have initiated a probe. The police have taken the body into custody and stated that once confirmation is made regarding the woman’s identity, appropriate action would be taken based on her family’s statement. As of now the police has seized the truck and scooter involved in the crash.

An eye-witness present at the scene says that there were two people in the truck at the time of the accident and both of them fled the scene after the crash. The witness further claims that the accident was caused due to the truck driver’s negligence. As per reports, the people nearby even tried to apprehend the truck driver and his accomplice, however both of them managed to escape. Allegedly, the truck driver was driving at a very high speed whereas the woman was riding her scooter at a very slow pace.  

The witnesses also claim that they had warned the driver but yet the truck driver ran over the woman and later fled the scene. ASI Charanjit Singh has confirmed that the woman riding the scooter has lost her life in the collision with the municipal corporation garbage truck. Later after the accident it was confirmed that the woman was a resident of Dilbagh Nagar after checking the scooter’s registration certificate. As of now, the family of the deceased woman has been informed and further investigation into the accident is taking place.
