On Monday night, a Kabaddi tournament turned a center of crime when unidentified men shot dead Kabaddi promoter and player Digvijay Singh aka Rana Balachauria. The shocking incident took place in Sohana area of Mohali, Punjab.
Mohali SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans who reached the spot on Monday night informed the media, "Kabaddi player Rana Balachauria from Nawanshahr was attacked by 2-3 men. They fired at him. We have found 4-5 empty bullet shells, it means, the firing took place 4 to 5 times. We talked to people present during the Kabaddi match. We have been told that Rana Balachauria was stopped by those men as they were requesting to take a selfie with him. They also opened fire in the open to frighten the people present there. We are currently investigating whether it is case of old animosity or not."
As per reports, Mohali Police have registered a murder case against the attackers and efforts are on to identify and arrest the killers. The Bambiha gang has claimed responsibility for the murder through a social media post. Anti-Gangster Task Force, Crime Branch, Mohali Police and cyber cell teams are jointly investigating the matter.
A social media post is going viral over Rana Balachauria's murder case. Apart from taking responsibility of murder of Rana Balachauria, it means names like Donibal, Shaganpreet, Mohabbat Randhawa, Amar Khabbe, Prabh Dasuwal and Kaushal Chaudhary. The post alleged that Rana had links with Jaggu and Lawrence Bishnoi-gang.
The post further alleges that Rana Balachauria had sheltered people who attacked and killed Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. It is alleged that Rana Balachauria had personally taken care of them. By killing Rana, they claimed to have avenged the murder of their brother Sidhu Moose Wala. The post said the act was carried out by their brothers Makhan Amritsar and defaulter Karan.
As per reports, Rana Balachauria was the manager of a team. He had brought two teams to the tournament. After arranging the tie for the semi-final match, he was coming out of the ground when an attacker approached him on the pretext of taking a selfie and shot him in the head.
The kabaddi cup was being organised by the Gurdwara Management Committee and Vedwan Sports Club, Sohana. The match was being streamed live, due to which the sound of gunshots was captured on the cameras.
