Punjab Congress’s internal divisions were on full display on Saturday as party meetings in Sangrur, Samana (Patiala), and Bargar witnessed protests, slogan-shouting, and clashes among workers, with one event turning violent after chairs were hurled during a scuffle.
The most dramatic scenes unfolded during a coordination committee meeting at California Resort in Sangrur, where rival groups of Congress workers got into a heated argument that soon escalated into a physical clash. Workers raised “Bhupesh Baghel Murdabad” and “Channi Zindabad” slogans, while chairs were thrown, disrupting the meeting.
The programme was attended by Punjab Congress president Raja Warring, former Punjab Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, and Coordination Committee Chairman Vijay Inder Singla, whose former Assembly constituency is Sangrur.
Earlier, at a Congress event in Samana, Patiala, supporters of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi interrupted Raja Warring’s speech by raising slogans such as “Channi Lao, Punjab Bachao” and “Channi Lao, Congress Bachao.” Reacting sharply, Warring warned that those responsible for disrupting the party programme would face disciplinary action.
