Cause of tragedy
According to the information received by the residents, this particular tree was bended to one side from several months. The incident occurred when the gusty winds uprooted the tree causing it to fall on 2 parked cars near it. The tree caused heavy damage to the cars. The loud noise made people run to save their lives and caused chaos in the area.
They also added that the incident could be disastrous if people did not react to the situation immediately. This was said as many people were standing near the tree and could have put their lives at risk.
Statement by damaged vehicle owner
One of the vehicle owners, identified as Dheeraj talked to the media. He stated that he had just parked the car near the tree and was standing at a close proximity. He added that the tree had been dangerously leaning to one side. It was only when the strong winds caused the tree to fall on his car causing severe damage. He expressed gratitude by saying,” Thankfully, I was not inside the vehicle. Had I been sitting in the car, the consequences could have been fatal ".
Municipal corporation at fault
After the incident took place, the residents and shopkeepers expressed their anger on the Municipal Corporation and local administration for ignoring repatative warnings made for the tree. The locals alleged that the tree had been bent on one side from several months and the complaint regarding this had been made several times. Thereafter no serious actions were taken by the authorities to prevent any danger. However, this ignorance caused a major tragedy in the locality.
Plea to the authorities
The residents demand accountability from the officials and express safety concerns for commuters and travelers. The residents stated that dozens of trees along main roads of the city are in this condition. These are either dried out or leaned to one side should be cut or preventative measures should be taken for them. This should be done to curb the risk of any danger.
