Jalandhar: Three young men were killed in a road accident in the Maqsudan area of Jalandhar at around 6 a.m. on Saturday.

According to preliminary information, a Swift car collided with the rear of a tipper. The impact was severe, leaving the car extensively damaged. Its roof was torn apart, the number plate was dislodged and thrown away from the vehicle, and the airbags were deployed.

Two of the victims were found trapped inside the car’s front section, while the body of the third victim was found on the road.

Police reached the spot shortly after receiving information about the accident. Following a rescue operation, the bodies trapped inside the damaged vehicle were removed and shifted for post-mortem examination.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been established.

A police investigating officer said the Swift had struck the rear side of a stationary tipper. The tipper driver allegedly fled the scene after the collision. Police are tracing the vehicle through its registration number and efforts are underway to locate the driver.

Police further said the registration details of the Swift indicate that the vehicle is registered in the Lamba Pind area of Jalandhar. The registered address is being verified.

The bodies have been kept in the mortuary. Further proceedings will be carried out after completion of the investigation and other required legal formalities.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident and the sequence of events leading to the collision.
