One worker collapses during entry checking
Two BJP workers died during the party’s drug-free rally in Jalandhar on Wednesday, September 30, where Union Home Minister Amit Shah was present.
According to information released during the rally, one worker collapsed at around 1:23 pm while security personnel were checking people entering the rally pandal. The worker was reportedly suffering a medical emergency, described by those present as a heart attack.
Security personnel immediately rushed to his aid. Police and other security staff provided water and performed CPR before moving him towards a hospital in an ambulance. Medical staff deployed for Amit Shah’s visit also reportedly administered first aid.
The worker was taken to a private hospital, where he later died during treatment.
Second worker also dies
A second BJP worker also died during the rally. Jalandhar Rural Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding both deaths.
Police have said that the cause of death of the second worker had not been established at the time of the initial information. Further details regarding the deceased, including their verified identities and addresses, are being gathered.
Deaths announced from rally stage
The deaths were announced from the rally stage by Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon.
Dhillon expressed condolences to the families of the two workers and said the BJP stood with them in their grief. He also paid tribute to the deceased workers.
The incident occurred during the concluding programme of the BJP’s ‘Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra’, a statewide campaign against drug abuse that began on September 18 and covered all 117 Assembly constituencies before culminating in Jalandhar.
Police investigation underway
At present, the circumstances surrounding the second death remain under investigation. The cause of death should be treated as unconfirmed until the police or hospital authorities release further details.
The identities supplied in some preliminary accounts should also be independently confirmed before publication, particularly because reports from the previous week identified an Arshdeep Singh and Vinod Kumar Kalli among BJP workers involved in a separate road accident in Mansa.
