According to latest update from IMD Chandigarh Punjab has recently seen highly mixed weather conditions with both early signs of rain activity and strong heat building up across many districts.
In the past 24 hours isolated parts of Punjab experienced light rainfall along with gusty winds while thunderstorm activity and lightning were also reported at a few scattered places. Despite these brief weather changes overall temperature trend remained high across the state. Bathinda recorded the highest maximum temperature at around 44.0°C while Adampur recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 22.4°C.
The forecast for the coming days shows a clear shift between dry extreme heat and short spells of rain and thunderstorms and the weather is expected to remain mostly dry for a few days which will allow temperatures to rise further and after this dry phase maximum temperatures are likely to increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in several areas.
A strong heatwave spell is expected to grip Punjab in middle of the week and many districts are likely to face heatwave conditions while some regions in the southern and central parts of the state may also experience severe heatwave conditions which will lead to very hot and uncomfortable daytime weather across most areas.
However relief is expected toward the later part of the forecast period as light rain is likely at isolated places again along with thunderstorm activity and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph and these conditions are expected to appear in scattered pockets rather than widespread rainfall.
Weather experts also indicate that thunderstorm, lightning and wind activity may return in short bursts along with the rain spells and these developments could bring temporary relief from ongoing heat especially in areas facing extreme temperatures.
Overall Punjab is likely to see a cycle of intense heat followed by brief weather disruptions while most days will remain dry and hot isolated rain and thunderstorm activity later in forecast period may offer short-term relief from the heatwave conditions and residents are advised to stay cautious during peak afternoon hours due to rising temperatures and also remain alert during thunderstorm activity especially when strong winds and lightning are expected.
