Lohri is a celebration that resonates the festive spirit of Punjab and Punjabi community. Lohri is celebrated on January 13 every year. This festival is celebrated across Punjab, Himachal Pradesh. Jammu region, Haryana and Delhi, signifying the Harvest festival with bonfires and bhangra. However, official gazetted holiday status varies state to state as the banks follow the RBI calendar for holidays. While school holidays depend upon the state notifications.
Punjab declares January 13 as a full gazetted holiday, all government offices, schools, colleges closed. Himachal Pradesh and Jammu (J&K) also observe January 13 as state holiday. The Punjab government calendar confirms Lohri on the 13th.
In the state of Haryana and Delhi, Lohri is celebrated by masses but reportedly it is not notified as a gazetted holiday.
The banks in Jammu shall observe a bank holiday on 13th January. Additionally though Lohri is a prominent festival of Punjab still it is not a bank holiday. So banks in Punjab and Jammu observe no bank holiday till any official notice for a gazetted holiday is circulated by the states.
