Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on August 25 had announced that all schools of the state will remain closed from August 26 to August 30. The four days Punjab School Holidays were announced keeping the incessant rainfall predictions and flood crisis in mind.

Following that at least 7 districts of Punjab are gripped under the flood crisis and the number is expected to reach eight. Meaning, a total of 8 districts of Punjab are soon going to face flood crisis if the weather does not improve.

Punjab School holidays to be extended?

As per reports, Punjab school holidays may be extended further. Although no official decision has been taken by the department to extend the holidays yet, it is being said that if the weather remains bad and the rain intensifies again in the coming days, the government may consider extending the holidays keeping in mind the convenience of the children.

Notably, rainfall returned to Jalandhar on August 29 afternoon. After al most half an hour of torrential rainfall, the city of Jalandhar is witnessing an overcast conditions.

Weather website AccuWeather has predicted rainfall in Jalandhar for the next 3 to 4 days i.e. from August 31 to September 3.

On August 31, there is 98% chances of rainfall. on September 1, there is 91% chances of rainfall, on September 2, there is 100% chances of rainfall and on September 3, there is 71% chances of rainfall.

Weather department alert

The Meteorological Department has once again issued an alert of heavy rain in Punjab. According to the department, there will be moderate to heavy rain in different districts of Punjab from August 29 to September 1, for which a 'yellow alert' has been issued.

Apart from this, the water level in Bhakra Dam has been recorded at 1671.80 feet, while the water level of Pong Dam has gone above the danger mark. Due to this, keeping safety in mind, the BBMB (Bhakra Beas Management Board) administration has released 1,04,989 cusecs of water from Pong Dam into the Beas River.

Similarly, due to continuous release of water from Bhakra Dam, Pong Dam and Madhopur Headworks of Pathankot, hundreds of villages in Ferozepur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur and Dera Baba Nanak area have been flooded with water up to 7 feet.
