10 Lesser known facts about Shaheed Bhagat Singh

Bhagat did his schooling at Dayanand Anglo-Vedic High School, pursuing higher studies at National College in Lahore.

Singh was an admirer of Marxism & was inspired by writings of Vlaimir Lenin, Leon Trotsky & Mikhail Bakunin.

In March 1926, he founded the Naujawan Bharat Sabha, a socialist organization with the aim to overthrow British rule in India.

In 1927, he was arrested & charged with involvement in Lahore bombing case that took place in 1926 & released after 5 weeks.

In 1928, he formed the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), which later became Hindustan Socialist Republican Army (HSRA).

On Dec17, 1928, the HSRA executed a plan to kill police SP James Scott but mistankenly killed his assistant John P. Saunders.

Singh’s plan to throw bombs in the Central Legislative assembly was inspired by the French anarchist Auguste Vaillant.

After throwing the bombs, Singh and Dutt did not ran away but stood there shouting ‘Inquilab Zindabad.’

Singh was shifted from a Delhi prison to Mianwali where he & co-prisoners protested against discrimination between Indian & European prisoners,

They were arrested & sentenced to life imprisonment. On March 23, 1931, Singh was executed along with Rajguru and Sukhdev.
