Canada has now imposed new visa restrictions in the year 2026. As per latest reports the Canadian government has banned visa approvals for sponsoring elderly relatives that were issued under the Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship Program. As of now, the government has completely halted accepted any new visas under this scheme for the year 2026.
Now, after this decision, the citizens and permanent residents (PR) living in Canada, would no longer be able to sponsor their parents and grandparents.
It is noteworthy that earlier under this scheme, the sponsor was the one who took all the responsibilities and expenses of the elderly relative for up to 20 years. It was also necessary to assure that the elderly relative does not demand any government assistance or benefits.
Now, with this new development taken by the Canadian government, thousands of immigrant families who were eyeing to call their parents to Canada will be affected. As of now, no deadline has been established on the ban over the sponsorship program. This move has dashed hope for many families of uniting with their parents and grandparents.
