A video released by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has sparked a massive uproar on social media. A 35-yea-old man identified as Gurpreet Singh was shot dead by the LAPD in July 2025.

Gurpreet was shot by the US Police near Crypto.com Arena in downtown Los Angeles. As per Times of India Report, the 35-year-old man was performing Gatka in the middle of the road.

The shocking incident took place on the morning of July 13, when multiple 911 callers reported a man brandishing a large blade at passersby at the busy intersection of Figueroa Street and Olympic Boulevard.

Why has Gurpreet Singh's topic resurfaced now?

The reason being LAPD has released bodycam footage of the incident on YouTube on August 28, 2025.

In the video, Gurpreet Singh was seen performing some act. TOI has reported that Gurpreet was apparently performing Gatka, a traditional Sikh martial art, in the middle of the street.

What did the LAPD say?

As per LAPD, Gurpreet abandoned his car in the middle of the road, waved the machete aggressively and, at one point, even appeared to slice his own tongue with the weapon.

Abc7 reported that Gurpreet then took off in his car, waving the machete outside the driver's side window.

Police said officers then initiated a brief pursuit in which Singh "drove erratically" and crashed with an officer's vehicle.

Singh stopped near Figueroa and 12th streets and charged at the officers with the machete. That's when gunfire erupted.
