PNB Bank robbery in Jalandhar: KNOW who was behind the gunpoint heist

The main accused has been identified as Simarjit Singh alias Amrik Singh who is the son of a former DSP and police has recovered a revolver from his possession

In a swift action Jalandhar Police have solved the recent robbery at a Punjab National Bank branch in Bank Enclave Phase 2 Khurla Kingra and the crime which was carried out at gunpoint was cracked within hours with the help of CCTV footage and quick police response.

Robbery took place within minutes

According to Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur the accused entered the bank and carried out the robbery within minutes and soon after the incident police teams were activated and a large search operation was launched.

Accused escaped towards Khambra

As per official reports the accused tried to escape by riding towards the Khambra side and during their escape they changed clothes and took a different route to avoid being caught however the police closely tracked their movement by checking footage from more than 50 CCTV cameras installed across the area.

Ex DSP’s son held

With the help of this CCTV network and quick coordination police were able to identify and arrest the main accused Simarjit Singh (also known as Amrik Singh) who is the son of a former DSP and from his possession police recovered a revolver, three live cartridges and some cash linked to the robbery.

Police investigation revealed that the accused has a criminal background with two cases already registered against him including one under the NDPS Act and officials also said that the robbery was committed to arrange money for drugs.

One accused remains at large

While one accused has been arrested police teams are conducting raids to catch the second accused and a case has been registered and the arrested accused will be presented in court for further questioning to recover the remaining money.

Police officials said that the quick use of CCTV footage and fast action by teams on the ground helped in solving the case quickly and they have assured that strict action will be taken and the second accused will also be arrested soon.
