Recently an incident took place in Kerala , where a bus driver took jackfruit crops from his home to the depot and distributed it among his fellow drivers.
In a strange twist of events, a bus driver employed by Kerala State Road Transport Corporation flunked a breathalyser test at the depot for a wrong reason, having consumed too much jackfruit.
The incident occurred in Kerala's Pandalam KSTRC depot on Friday, the report added, when the driver allegedly ate too much jackfruit before reporting for duty.
In a report on the incident, an official said another bus driver has brought the jackfruit yields from his residence to the depot and shared with the other drivers
Feeling cheerful and grateful, the concerned driver ate a considerable portion of the fruit prior to reporting duty.
In contrast to the north india where jackfruit is found as raw fruit, mostly eaten after it is cooked, well in the south the jackfruit is found more abundantly ripe and can be eaten straightaway.
When a routine check was done by the authorities prior to joining the duty, the bus driver did not pass the breathalyser test. His level increased from 0 to 10 in seconds.
Displeased with the findings, the bus driver continued insisting that he never had alcohol and requested them to even do a blood test. Not only him, three other bus drivers also failed the breathalyser test.
Thereafter, the authorities resolved to subject the breathalyzer itself to the judicial microscope.
Tasked with administering the breathalyzer test, the official took the test when the meter read zero. He then ate some jackfruit and took the test.
Here's what followed
The driver and the rest of the police officers were all expected for the test result. The reading of the meter increased, indicating he was drunk. Later, the officials confirmed that the driver was not fibbing. He wasn't drunk but had eaten a Jackfruit.
Science behind it
The ripe jackfruit contains natural sugar like fructose and glucose. When these natural sugar are exposed to above than room temperature these sugar components in the fruit lead to natural fermentation. This fermentation process produces a trace amount of ethanol which is a chemical compound of alcohol.
The breathalyser detects ethanol compounds while testing and identifies the alcohol consumption accordingly.
Based on above stated incident of Kerala and upon the scientific facts stated above it can be claimed that Jackfruit can evade liquor breath analyser test
