In a major shocking incident, Patna’s Paras Hospital witnessed a heart-wrenching incident when five armed men entered the hospital and casually walked towards the patient room and fired bullets at him and successfully escaped. This horrifying incident was captured on the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital.
According to the preliminary information, the target of this incident was Chandan Mishra, who died after the attack. He was a hardened criminal and was blamed for various murder cases. Currently, he was on parole due to medical grounds and was seeking medical assistance in the Paras Hospital in Patna, where this chilling incident took place.
The police officials, involved in the investigation, had been expecting that this attack was planned and executed by the members of some rival gang. Notably, Mishra died due to severe injuries.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Kartikay Sharma, addressed the media following the incident and stated, “A criminal named Chandan Mishra, resident of Buxar district, against whom dozens of cases of murder are registered, was transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail. Chandan was on parole and admitted to Paras Hospital for treatment. The rival gang shot him. He is undergoing treatment, and with the help of the Buxar police, we are identifying the members of the rival gang, Chandan Sheru gang.”
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the police officials have mentioned that they will also investigate the involvement of any hospital security guards.
It is to be noted that the hospital shooting is not new in Patna, and this incident has again shed light on the law and order situation in Bihar's capital. Various incidents of murders have made headlines in the past few weeks, including the murders of businessmen Gopal Khemka, lawyer Jitendra Mahato, and BJP leader Surendra Kewa.
The upsurge of crimes has put the Nitish Kumar-led JDU-BJP government on the back foot as the opposition RJD and Congress have received the opportunity to hone the state government several months ahead of the state elections.
Following the attack, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav raised questions on the government of Bihar and asked, “If anyone was safe anywhere in the state?” He further mentioned, “Government-backed criminals stormed into the ICU and shot a patient admitted to the hospital. Is anyone safe anywhere in Bihar? Has this happened before 2005?"
While addressing the attack, Deputy Chief Minister of the state, Vijay Sinha, assured that the criminals involved will be caught soon, and such an incident is unfortunate. “It will be thoroughly investigated, and the criminal will not be spared. The Chief Minister of Bihar has said the criminal will be caught and strictly punished,” he was quoted as saying.
Bihar's Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar also conducted a discussion on the law and order situation in the state and said, “Various measures are being taken to control crime. If we compare crime rates over time, around 2004, approximately four atrocities occurred daily. Since then, the number of murders has gradually decreased. Last year, around 2,700 murders were reported, a reduction of about 1,300 compared to 2004," as reported by NDTV.
DGP Kumar was further quoted as saying, “In this case, the individual involved is a convicted criminal with about three dozen cases registered against him. Around ten years ago, he was considered an associate of a notorious figure in Bakhsar. Recently, he was released on parole for medical treatment.”
In addition to this, he mentioned, “The incident occurred at Paras Hospital, a well-known and reputable facility with robust security measures, including a retired employee overseeing security and deployed guards. Even as a common visitor, you face multiple checks and are often stopped at the gate. Thus, it is under investigation how the criminals entered the hospital to reach the ward where the individual was admitted.”
