Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Tuesday metthe three-member Congress panel in Delhi amid the escalating tension in thestate unit to draw a conclusion to end the political rift.
CM’s meeting with Mallikarjun Kharge led panel lasted for3 long hours in which the political situation of the state and the issues relatedto cricketer-turned-politician, Navjot Singh Sidhu was discussed extensively.
Although Sidhu has opened a floodgate of attacks at Captainover the desecration case of Sikh religious textbook Guru Granth Sahib Ji,Kotakapura Firing Case, illicit mining case, and other unfulfilled promises ofthe Capt government, the reason behind it is different.
It is the way of the world when a person plans to bring a transformation;he considers his vision to be supreme. Though Sidhu in his exclusive interviewto a private news channel has cleared, he is not willing to join the party toacquire a special designation.
However, the AICC panel and CM Capt mulls at giving him(Sidhu) the position of State Unit President to accommodate him in the partyprior to Punjab Assembly Elections 2022.
Earlier Punjab CM has also shown his willingness to hailback his former colleague in the party as the state unit president face ratherDeputy CM face perhaps, now the scenario is upside down.
According to the sources, in a meeting with the high-powered panel, Capt Amarinder Singh has expressed his dissent to work withSidhu for the remaining ruling term of eight months ahead of Assembly Elections2022.
The rationale behind it could be considered as NavjotSidhu’s latest interview with a news channel where he lashed out twosignificant families of Punjab who have eaten up the state’s treasury like atermite. Though his words were indirect, it was targeted as Punjab CM’s familyas well.
And this has likely made Capt Amarinder Singh give a second thought to his decision of being willing to work with Sidhu.
“Not comfortable as a CM to work with Sidhu as a StateUnit President” cleared Capt to the Congress panel in a meeting on Tuesday.
Formulating strategies to win the State AssemblyElections, the high-powered plan has suggested Punjab CM fulfill thepromises of exposing and eradicating drug mafia, illicit mining, and exposingculprits of the Guru Granth Sahib Sacrilege case.
It has been also learnt from the sources that afterwrapping up the meeting with the AICC panel, CM Capt is likely to meet witheminent Congress leader Ambika Soni, who has been inactive in the statepolitics from the past four years. She is considered close to Sonia Gandhi and CMCapt could seek her help to convince the party chief to do not ignore the oldstate party leaders in order to resolve conflict.
As CM Capt Amarinder Singh is going to stay put in NewDelhi for tonight, speculations are there that he could arrange a meeting withRahul Gandhi as well.
Furthermore, sources have suggested that Punjab CM hasinformed the Congress panel to do not hold such frequent meetings with him toresolve the party infighting as elections are just eight months away and hisgovernance is getting affected by this.
However, now the entire decision of accommodating Sidhu,giving him a supreme designation or keeping him aside from the party lies withthe Congress High Command- Sonia Gandhi, who is expected to make a finalcall to narrow a wedge within the party leaders in this week.
