
A low-intensity earthquake has hit the National Capital Delhi on Sunday. The earthquake had a magnitude of 2.1 on the Richter Scale.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the tremors were felt at 12:02 pm at the depth of 7 kilometers from the surface. The earthquake hit the Punjabi bagh area of Delhi.
A tweet by the National Centre of Seismology read, “Earthquake of Magnitude: 2.1, occurred on 20-06-2021, 12:02:01 IST, Lat: 28:67 and Long: 77:14, Depth: 7 km, Location: 8 km NW ofNew Delhi, India.”
So far, no damage to life or property has been reported.
Earlier in February, strong tremors were felt in Delhi and its surrounding areas for several seconds. At the same time, a strong earthquake of 6.3 magnitudes has hit Tajikistan, which isaround 1,200 km from the National Capital Delhi.
Delhi lies in the 4th and 5th seismic zones and it is rare for the national capital to be the epicenters of an earthquake. However, Delhi feels tremors when an earthquake takes place evenas far as central Asia or the Himalayan range.
