While BTS is known for having some of the tightest choreography in contemporary music, the onstage atmosphere was drastically lighter and more lighthearted for this performance.

Coldplay's Chris Martin and BTS — all of whom appeared to be having a great time – walked the stage in a sort of shapeshifting throng, with BTS clustering around Martin and Martin occasionally lifting his  his hands up towards sky and the universe beyond it.

Martin was dressed in a plain red t-shirt, whereas BTS wore streetwear such as leather jackets, graffiti printed t-shirts, and bandanas.

Although there were some sound issues at the beginning of the performance, by the end, everything had been tightened up to the end.

Coldplay's latest album, Music of the Spheres, includes the song "My Universe," which took over two years to complete. "I got a message from someone about 18 months ago," Coldplay's Chris Martin confessed in a YouTube video in September. " 'Oh, BTS wants to make a song with you,' they said. 'How would it work?' I asked. I couldn't understand how that was possible." Martin started writing the song after hearing the words "my universe" from a friend, and then flew to South Korea to meet BTS for the first time. They set to work as soon as he arrived, and the rest is history!

This was the first time Coldplay and BTS played the song live and in front of an audience. The AMAs had also planned for BTS to perform their "Butter" remix with Megan Thee Stallion, however she had to cancel her presence due to a "unexpected personal matter” on Nov. 20.
