A man allegedly died by suicide in Amritsar's Division D police station lock-up on Tuesday (October 19). The man has reportedly blamed his in-laws in a suicide note written on the wall of lock-up.
Dilpreet Singh, a Phoollan Wala Chowk resident, was detained during the investigation related to his wife's death.
Recently, his wife Paramjit Kaur had committed suicide. According to police, Paramjit's parents had accused her husband Dilpreet of abetting her suicide.
According to sources familiar with the situation, Dilpreet committed suicide by hanging himself from the police lockup's iron grill with a bedsheet.
Before taking his life, Dilpreet wrote a suicide note on the wall of the lock-up. He alleged his in-laws to be the reason for this drastic step.

Dilpreet's family learned about it when they arrived at the police station in the morning.
The body has been sent for a post-mortem by the police.
Harjit Dhaliwal, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, said the probe was underway.
The statement of Dilpreet’s family is to be recorded, after which appropriate actions will be taken.
