Sports fraternity went into shock after Tennis World Number 1 Ash Barty on Wednesday announced that she is retiring. Ash (Ashleigh) Barty announcement of her retirement came as a major shock as the Tennis stalwart is just 25-years-old and also she is the World's Number 1 Tennis player right now. Following that, her fans and the entire world started to wonder and query Ash Barty retirement reason. Ash Barty retirement was announced by the Tennis stalwart herself in an interview with Casey Dellacqua and the video of it was posted on her Instagram handle. 

Ash Barty took to her Instagram on Wednesday and posted an emotional note stating that it is too difficult and emotional for her to announce her retirement from Tennis. 'Today is difficult and filled with emotion for me as I announce my retirement from tennis. I wasn’t sure how to share this news with you so I asked my good friend @caseydellacqua to help me. I am so thankful for everything this sport has given me and leave feeling proud and fulfilled. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way, I’ll always be grateful for the lifelong memories that we created together (SIC)."

As per the interview shared by Ash Barty, She says, "I wasn't sure how I was gonna do it but I think so many times in my life both in professional and personal you have been there for me. So, there is no right way or wrong way. This is perfect for me to talk about it that I am retiring from Tennis and it's the first time I have said it out loud."

"I am so happy and ready at this moment and I just know at the moment in my heart that for me as a person this is right. I am grateful for whatever Tennis has given me. It has given me all my dream, therefore the time is right for me to step away and chase my other dreams," said 'tearful' Ash Barty. 

Barty furthermore stated that winning Wimbledon was one of biggest, however she still felt something missing. However after winning the Australian Open her every dream in Tennis was fulfilled. 

"But to be able to win Wimbledon which was my dream, the one true dream that I wanted in tennis, that really changed my perspective. And I just had that gut feeling after Wimbledon and had spoken to my team quite a lot about it, and there was just a little part of me that wasn't quite satisfied, wasn't quite fulfilled. And then came the challenge of the Australian Open. And I think that for me just feels like the perfect way, my perfect way, to celebrate what an amazing journey my tennis career has been," said Ash Barty. 


Although Barty did not specify her further plans or other dreams for which she is leaving Tennis, Ash Barty retirement reason will be revealed in the press conference which will be taking place on Thursday.  Ash Barty retirement reason will be specified in the press conference, the Aussie tennis stalwart wrote on Instagram that she will reveal it further. 

Ash Barty's Tennis career

Coming back to Ash Barty's Tennis career, she won the Australian Open earlier this year. She has also won the French Open (2019) and the Wimbledon (2021) in the singles category, and the US Open (2018) in the doubles category.
