Bajrang Punia bags bronze, India gets its 2nd medal in wrestling

He is married to a wrestler herself, Sangita Phogat who is one of the Phogat sister.

Bajrang Punia, a freestyle wrestler wins bronze for India under the category of 65 kg, he is the only wrestler to gain 3 medals at World wrestling Championship.

The match started with the domination of Bajrang against Niyazbekov in the first few seconds, the next score was again by Bajrang when only 3 minutes were left, and Bajrang tried grabbing the right leg of the opponent, but got his head locked by Daulet Niyazbekov, Bajrang escaped free. After which, the opponent was pushed out of the center of the circle, and Bajrang got one point for that.

Before half-time, the score came to 2-0. When only one minute was left, Bajrang was awarded by 2 points after making an attack on Niyazbekov’s waist, making the score to 4-0. Bajrang takes a takedown and earns 2 more points, after which the score became 6-0.

Just when 30 seconds were left, he scores another point, and making a final win, winning the Bronze! After the match he showed his sportsman spirit by giving a hand to his opponent, helping him stand up.

Bajrang is from Jhajjar district, Haryana, and began wrestling at the age f 7, his father was his encouragement. He had no money to take part in expensive sports so he played free sports like Wrestling and Kabaddi. His father was also a wrestler when he was young. He works in the Indian Railways, he is married to a wrestler herself, Sangita Phogat who is one of the Phogat sisters. He is a brilliant player and has bagged many medals at an international level.
